My story – Rachel Maurice

I fell in love with the spa industry 12 years ago when I did a high school co-op at a quaint spa in Midland called Aesthetics by Adrienne. Adrienne showed me that the spa industry is not just painting nails and pampering people, but much more valuable and meaningful than that. For her it was a transformative experience. It was about listening to her clients daily problems, offering them her support, and having them leave feeling accepted, loved and both spiritually and physically rejuvenated. The spa was a place where people could find their inner harmony that ultimately lead to their understanding of how beautiful a person they are both inside and out. It was after this that I realized this industry was my calling. A way to help the world one soul at a time. A way for me to use my own hands as a source of positive energy to deliver to those who need it.

In 2008 I went to Rinaldi College of Aesthetics to learn the art, and continued education in London England, deepening my Skin Care knowledge. Upon Graduation, I moved around trying to find a spa that suited me best. I worked in Edmonton Alberta at a Salon and Spa, Vancouver, BC at a 5 star Hotel and Spa, Montreal at a Nail and Wax Bar and a couple Day Spas in Ontario. While these places all helped me learn new treatments and open my mind to how much diversity there is in the spa industry, none of these places were capturing the essence that I had found years ago. I finally came to realize that I would have to create a space myself. What I saw when I was 16 years old left an imprint on my soul, and it turned into a dream that felt unattainable. “What is missing?” I kept asking myself.

I began to study Herbalism, so I could learn about healing from within. I began practicing meditation, working with crystals and diving into spirituality. I started working alongside my Husband on his organic vegetable farm – Belle Roots Farm – and then came my “A-Ha” moment. Everything intertwined into a perfect circle. The Root of well-being, which exists in us all, must be aligned with nature at it’s core to find our inner-beauty. At this moment, Belle Roots Spa was born.
